Up cycled Book - Card holder.

This is an awesome idea that i just worked on yesterday !

Old books were catching dust on my shelf  

But what better way to Used them :) 

I created a Card / stamped image holder for myself ! :) 

check it out 

When u have a Nice Old book with thicker pages this is how ur card holder looks

I worked with a Thinner page book added a few flowers on the side and a ribbon all over ! :) 

- Make sure u choose a book with over 100 pages.

- Remove the Cover of the book. 

- Open the center of the book , Start folding it inwards into half (Yes each page !!)

- Now stick the book on the cover (Use cover as the base, keep edges crisp n clean.)

And ur done ! :)

Priority number 1 - Card

Hi lovely readers , 

Hope ur week was wonderful and fruitful. 

I had a crazy week with 

Lots of work at school :) 

nonetheless i took out a lil time to make another card .... 

I have recently developed the art of card making 

have been a lil hesitant in the start but got so much inspiration from my fellow indian Crafters. 

so here is another card i made few days ago 

I present to u 

Priority Number One

My bro took this picture when i was working on it :)  

dont mind the clutter :D 

I stitched 2 contrast handmade papers in the base card stock 

in the alignment shown above

Paper Cup/ Mug - Tutorial

Here is another tutorial that we (me n the kids) 

practiced in the LBCI workshop last sunday. 

one can make pen stands out of this , but i use it as a gift box , 

I fill the cup with homemade chocolates and gift wrap it with transparent wrapper, and its ready!! 

So lets start ... 

U need ::

1. Card Paper (170- 220 gms ,is good)- any color (Could be patterned)

2. Scissors 

3.Pencil 

4.Ruler 

5.Ribbons 

6.Buttons

Procedure :

Notice the pictures and proceed -

[If ur paper is patterned , mark everything on the backside of the paper.]

-Cut out a rectangle 9 inches in width and 4.5 inches long , 

- on the lower end of the paper mark 1 inch,  2 Inches ,3inches and so on till 8inches. 

- Now from each point make a line going upwards about 1.2 inches. (See picture)

- Now from the top of the right side of the paper, go down and mark 3 inches 
- make a line from that point to the top of the 8 inch point we had marked earlier and cut on that line (See picture below to understand better.) 
-Now cut all the 1.2 inch lines (This will be our base)

- since my paper is Plain on both sides , i was able to choose what side is neater to be the outside of the cup , hence i flipped it.

- Now apply glue on the small 3 inch flap that u have , and roll the cup , and join it on the other end on the outer side.

-Now after the circular cup is made Glue the cuts of the bottom of the cup as shown.

-Cut out a pair of semicircles and glue them together for the handle , leave out little space on both ends of the semicircle to attach it to the cup. 

- Glue the handle on the cup

- lets Decorate now

Japanese dolls- 2 (With sleeves)

This one is for all those who loved my Japanese paper doll tutorial earlier !

Here are another type of Japanese dolls , 

Its got sleeves and innovative hairstyles. 

I kept the sleeves to a half length

 but lot of other crafters use even longer sleeves than these

and believe me it sure looks g8.

I also added Some high umbrella like Collars , to make them look like Queens :) :) 

PS: Notice the hair :) its all pulled in the front with a bun on top.

This one's made with washi paper

don't u just love making these ? 

its pretty addictive :)

Indian paper dolls - Sarigami

I name this One "SARIGAMI" - which means "Origami of Sari" .

Sari is the National Costume of India. and I love it !

Its 9 yards of fabric that's Draped in a certain manner ...

it looks very sensuous n flattering if worn correctly !

I googled the term "Indian paper dolls"

n i was surprised to see very bad representation of the Indian sari. 

nevermind!!

 i am proud to present to u ... Modern India's paper dolls

Take a good look !



Indian paper doll - In Sari



I used my fav, 3 layered patterned tissue papers for this sari ,
because its most essential to use a "fabric like" or "Soft foldable paper" to give a realistic look to the sari as it involves lots of pleats. 
The "WASHI" paper can also be used to make these dolls.
All this is wrapped around a hand made body silhouette ,
Material used to make the body is thin Cardboard.

Paper Dress - Vintage

This vintage dress is made of thin cardboard Base.

Over which i collaged some magazine papers ,

then I glued some Chinese lace paper coasters at the neckline and  the waist line.

After which i stitched the Whole outline of the whole dress.

Then i used Laces and roses and buttons to give the finished look ! :)

Paper Lantern Hangings !

With Diwali (an Indian Festival, Of lights ) around the corner , I really thought some Paper ornamentation should be Awesome to Adorn your house !

These Paper hangings are the Simplest thing in the World to make! :)

all u need is

-Quilling Strips

- Stapler with Pins 

- Strong Thread

(Could use Nylon, Or Thick Gold / Silver Threads)

-Ruler

Process :

- First Decide colors that u are going to use from your Quilling strips !

Make sure u use A few colors for the layers as it looks better that way!

(PS: this craft can be done By manually cutting strips out of Card paper , Handmade paper.)

- Now cut 2 strips in 11 cm , 2 in 9cm , 2 in 7 cm & 1 Strip 5 cm in length.

The shortest one comes in the centre ,

Next come the 7 cm strips one on each side of the Shortest Strip ,

n then 9 cm strips one on each side of the 7 cm strips, n so on

(More layers can be added , just increase length with 2-3 cm )

-Now Hold the tops of all the strips together, make sure they are flush,

then staple them together.

-Now line up the bottom edges on the opposite side,

so that they are flush too, and staple the end. Your paper lantern Ornament is ready !

(PS: U may cover the stapled Ends with a patterned Tape too, but we kept it simple.) 

- Now all there is left to do is to Sew though the paper hangings Join them on a stick or a Ring On the top, side by side , with varied Lengths. so then it looks somthing like this ! 

So try it n, Knock your self out !!
